Art is Forever, Exhibits are Not: Shawnee Hill + Adam Francey Openings.

{ Artist Shawnee Hill’s work for Broken Ritual at Bug Jar – taken from Shawnee Hill Facebook. }

ART

IS

FOREVER

{ It’s a bit of a paradox. Art is destroyed, taken down, stolen, vandalized, whatever. But art is forever. No one can take away the experience of art–from the artist who creates or the patron who enjoys. No one can dismantle this creative process or remove our experiences. No one. }

intimate + accessible is the best way to describe art in Rochester. … and poppin’.

One of the most exhilarating parts? Capturing this experience during its lifetime. Rochester, NY is phenomenal for this. Thanks, in part, to galleries like 1975 { right behind Hart’s, 2Vine, and The Little Theatre }, which has FREE admission, where our Roc community can intimately + freely enjoy the works of local + national artists. And 1975 Gallery is just 1 spot.

The best part?? We don’t just have artists. We have artists who share their souls.

Interacting with the artists! Be it Wall\Therapy, were you can watch internationally, critically acclaimed street artists + graff writers produce art on the walls and souls of our streets, or openings at a myriad of coffee shops + businesses.

The arts, reads, bakes, & beauties below are incredible gift ideas. But more than that, they’re new traditions that keep our old ones alight. }

 COLLECT LOCAL

Positioned just off Union Street and past Rochester’s East End, behind The Little Theatre and Restaurant 2 Vine (where The Little Bakery once … baked), 1975 Gallery (1975ish for Social Media handles) bolsters Rochester’s burgeoning subculture art scene. A scene that has some gnarly teeth.

First + foremost, 1975 Gallery directly connects our community to local artists + artists’ work who otherwise would be unknown. Artwork, available for purchase, is found online. Admission to The Gallery, itself, is free, so proceeds from openings + art purchases fund the entire project and accompanying fundraisers. Lehman explains that viewing art in an open space, such as 1975 Gallery, is communal. Owning art from a local artist–interacting with it, honoring it, allowing it to sink into you–is body + soul. Collecting local art transforms.

APPROACHABLE GALLERY

If 1975 Gallery bites. Erich Lehman, owner + curator, devours.

RIT Teeth { alumnus and faculty member }

KRUDCO Teeth { former Creative Director }

WALL THERAPY { Leader Organizer }

THE YARDS { affiliant }

His tastes have class and his appetite, voracity. With teeth sunk into numerous endeavors, Lehman might be the name behind any movement in Rochester. Especially Shop Local. In 2008, when he sunk his teeth into 1975, Lehman built The Gallery so that it would be approachable. For artists. For community. For Rochester. Inside, 1975 is ordered for style. Outside, the walls are covered with graffiti/street art (Wall Therapy). The 1975 Gallery is a space for all art lovers and patrons, youth and experts to share. To explore. To see. And that’s exactly what 1975 Gallery and its artists are.

Visionaries.

Muses.

Imaginators.

Dreamers.

The communal connection viewers experience in the open palette that is 1975 Gallery, fills viewers eyes and minds, inspires viewers bodies and souls.

Catch all the 1975 Exhibits (booked through November!) + Events. (LIKE TONIGHT’S AT THE LITTLE.)

I promise you, gallery life tastes priceless.
