This evening I checked out “All Things Wild and Free,” the art exhibit-fundraiser by artist Mr. Prvrt, his debut at 1975 Gallery. I also had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting with Erich Lehman, owner, curator, collector, and all things Rochester.

COLLECT LOCAL
Positioned just off Union Street and past Rochester’s East End, behind The Little Theatre and Restaurant 2 Vine (where The Little Bakery once … baked), 1975 Gallery (1975ish for Social Media handles) bolsters Rochester’s burgeoning subculture art scene. A scene that has some gnarly teeth.
First + foremost, 1975 Gallery directly connects our community to local artists + artists’ work who otherwise would be unknown. Artwork, available for purchase, is found online. Admission to The Gallery, itself, is free, so proceeds from openings + art purchases fund the entire project and accompanying fundraisers. Lehman explains that viewing art in an open space, such as 1975 Gallery, is communal. Owning art from a local artist–interacting with it, honoring it, allowing it to sink into you–is body + soul. Collecting local art transforms.
APPROACHABLE GALLERY
If 1975 Gallery bites. Erich Lehman, owner + curator, devours.

KRUDCO Teeth { former Creative Director }
WALL THERAPY { Leader Organizer }

His tastes have class and his appetite, voracity. With teeth sunk into numerous endeavors, Lehman might be the name behind any movement in Rochester. Especially Shop Local. In 2008, when he sunk his teeth into 1975, Lehman built The Gallery so that it would be approachable. For artists. For community. For Rochester. Inside, 1975 is ordered for style. Outside, the walls are covered with graffiti/street art (Wall Therapy). The 1975 Gallery is a space for all art lovers and patrons, youth and experts to share. To explore. To see. And that’s exactly what 1975 Gallery and its artists are.
Visionaries.
Muses.
Imaginators.
Dreamers.
The communal connection viewers experience in the open palette that is 1975 Gallery, fills viewers eyes and minds, inspires viewers bodies and souls.
Catch all the 1975 Exhibits (booked through November!) + Events. (LIKE TONIGHT’S AT THE LITTLE.)
I promise you, gallery life tastes priceless.
